Hello everyone!
This is the WorldClassroom Management Team of HelloWorld, Inc.
On January 16, 2024, an online international exchange class using WorldClassroom was held at Kokura Junior High School in Naha City. Seven students from the special needs class participated in the class! Three English speakers from Australia, China, and Hawaii participated as exchange partners.
With the goal of “experiencing diverse cultures while becoming familiar with English,” the international exchange program has begun!
In WorldClassroom, we always have an ice-breaker activity before the start of the exchange to ease the students’ tension.
This time, the students participated in a quiz called “Guess Where I am” to find out which country the English speaker was in, as well as to introduce themselves!
The students filled in the answers on their worksheets and colored in the map to mark their answers.
The next activity was a cultural quiz game. The class was designed to include a quiz about each country and to encourage active participation by the participants.
The participants all participated in this activity with great interest and chose their answers. When answering the questions, they were surprised to learn about cultures and facts about countries they had never heard of before.
After the quiz, the students were divided into small groups for the final activity, Sugoroku.
In this game, students took turns rolling the dice, reading the sentences on the squares that stopped, and asking English speakers questions in English!
In this game, students learned not only English, but also greetings in other languages, which they said out loud. After the exchange, the Hawaiian greeting “Aloha” and the Chinese greeting “Ni hao” echoed lively in the class!
Time passed quickly and the exchange came to an end. After giving closing remarks for the online international exchange, everyone took a commemorative photo to remember the event.
The WorldClassroom allows students to connect with their peers from around the world and engage in international exchange as if they were in the classroom next door. This time, based on the teachers’ request for an activity that they do not usually do in their English classes, the students experienced an activity that allows them to learn “live English” in a fun way.
Communicating in English and experiencing a new language and culture must have greatly broadened the horizons of the students at Naha Municipal Kozo Junior High School and deepened their understanding of the world. The lively expressions on the students’ faces showed that their first encounter with people from other countries and cultures was a very valuable experience.
How do you feel about using WorldClassroom to engage in international exchange?
“It was fun! It made me want to learn to speak English better.”
“After doing the international exchange class, I wanted to learn more about other countries’ languages and cultures.”
“I would like to speak with people from other countries, such as Argentina and Saudi Arabia!”
What is WorldClassroom?
It is an online cross-cultural exchange & English education platform that is widely used in public schools in Japan and schools abroad. We aim to encourage students’ language acquisition and international cultural exchange through the use of technology, while at the same time reducing teacher’s burdens by using an automated evaluation system.
WorldClassroom enables students to use English as a lingua franca in today’s world! Why don’t you provide great, real-life English learning opportunities for your students through online cross-cultural exchange, which they cannot experience just by sitting in front of their desks?
We look forward to hearing from you!
