Hello, everyone! We are WorldClassroom team of HelloWorld Inc.
We recently held an online international exchange class at Yokosuka High School in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, and the Kalyani School in India!
Approximately 40 students from the Japanese school and 30 students from the Indian school participated. Even before the exchange began, all the students seemed excited to meet students from the other school.
Every time before a WorldClassroom session, we have an icebreaker activity to relieve students’ tension and ease the atmosphere. This time, the students answered a world trivia quiz using gestures.
The power of gestures transcends language barriers, often conveying nuances that words alone cannot.
By integrating body language and facial expressions alongside vocabulary, these icebreaker activities empower students to grasp practical English in diverse contexts.
After the icebreaker, students were divided into 10 small groups, and the international exchange began.
The students seemed nervous at first, but they gradually opened up to one another and seemed to enjoy having conversations!
They passionately discussed various topics such as food, music, and anime. Whenever common interests or hobbies were found, they all exclaimed with joy, and kept on talking excitedly.
Students communicated well by utilizing pictures and chatbox function to explain themselves.
Time flew by, and the exchange was about to end. On behalf of their class, one student from each school gave a speech of appreciation.
Students from both schools expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to spend meaningful time together during this session, highlighting that such chances don’t come every day.
At the end of the exchange, we took a group photo!
WorldClassroom allows students to connect with their peers from around the globe and engage in international cultural exchange as if they were visiting a classroom next door.
This session turned out to be a very meaningful online cultural exchange. In just under an hour, the students communicated in English, learned about each other’s cultures, and became new friends.
Students’ positive feedback!
